Modified Area Tasks use the same principle as an Assigned Area Task:

You must fly as far as you can and return home at or just after Min. Time.  The difference between AAT and MAT is the way you accumulate distance.  In MAT the way you accumulate distance is by flying to turn points rather than flying deep into a turn point area.

An MAT looks similar to a racing task in the GUI of Condor.  There will be several turn points with a start and finish gate.  When you begin the task, TP1 must be flown to first.  Upon reaching the the first turn point, the pilot may elect to fly to any of the previous turn points before returning home to accumulate more distance.  However, no turn point may be revisited without having flown to (2) intermediate turn points first. Simply put, you cannot return to a turn point you just came from.  The following is an example of a MAT declaration:

Start, TP1, TP3, TP4, TP5, TP6, TP3, TP4, Finish (Legal Task / No Penalties)

Start, TP1, TP3, TP8, TP4, TP5, TP6, TP3, TP7, TP3, Finish (Illegal Task / Penalty)

The reason the second example has a penalty is because the pilot returned to TP3 after TP7 without flying to (2) intermediate turn points first.  So, as a penalty, TP3 just prior to the finish would be removed from the scoring.

In all Sierra Hotel Racing MAT's, TP2 is not a turn point.  Instead, it is the finish sector.  So do not fly to TP2 until you are ready to finish the task.  If you us it as a turn point TP2 will be removed from the scoring calculation.  This is done so you will have final glide and timing information to get home.

The same time considerations must be taken into account as in an AAT.

It is highly recommended to print out a task map when flying a MAT.  When flying turn points out of sequence, Condor will not indicate on the bottom of the screen that you have entered a turn point cylinder.  So, zoom in on your moving map display and make sure you have crossed the boundary of the turn point cylinder before continuing on.

An IGC file is required at the completion of the task.
